Applicability of Seismic Response to Thin-Interbed and Acceptable Condition of Spectral Decomposition

Spectral decomposition is widely used in the thin-interbed prediction, though the condition of suitable applicability is not clear. In this paper, we build a forward modeling of seismic response to thin-interbed and find the suitable condition of spectral decomposition. The forward modeling of seismic response to thin-interbed indicates that there would exist the exponential relationship between seismic amplitude and percentage of sandstone in thin-interbed,and more frequency information for the thin-interbed contains than single sand layer occur. On condition that the thickness of thin-interbed is thinner than λ/4,total vibration of thickness less than λ/8,sandstone percentages less than 20%, the spectral decomposition technology is useable in the prediction of thin-inerbed sandstone.
