This paper presents an application of prestack seismic inversion technology to reservoir prediction and gas detection. By rock physical analysis, the relation between elastic parameters and reservoir properties is constructed. By pres-stack inversion, a number of various elastic parameters are obtained. The joint interpretation of these inverted parameters are then carried out in the guidance of the conclusions drawn from the rock physical analysis: lithology sections are obtained by cross-plotting density and Vp/Vs sections; porosity sections are transformed from Pimpedance sections for the predicted sands, water saturation sections are obtained from several elastic inversions using the new method given in this paper; the product of porosity and water saturation are then derived.
