For exactly doping out and evaluating petroleum and natural gas resource potentials in Paleogene in Huizhou Depression in Pearl River Mouth Basin, and classifying petroleum systems, organic matter abundances, organic matter types, hydrocarbon generating potentials and biomarkers of six three-class sequence so urce rocks in Palegene in Huizhou depression have been studied by methods of sequence strata and geochemistry. Middle-deep lacustrine mud rock in SQ2 in Wen chang formation in Eocene is absolutely main source rock. Swamp and fluvio-deltaic and coal-measure source rocks in SQ5 and SQ6 in Enping formation in Oligocene are important source rocks.
