Types of unconventional marine resources and favorable exploration directions in the Permian-Middle Triassic of the Sichuan Basin

The Permian Middle Triassic in the Sichuan Basin develop two types of resources, conventional and unconventional, which are important layers for searching for large-scale reserves. The latest drilling and exploration of the Leikoupo Formation marine mudstone in Well CT1 and the Wujiaping Formation in Well DY1H have made significant exploration discoveries, preliminarily revealing the great potential of unconventional oil and gas resources in the Permian and Triassic “source-reservoir integration”. Through the review of old wells, core observation, and analysis of oil and gas geochemical characteristics, the types of unconventional marine resources in the Permian Middle Triassic were identified, the conditions for oil and gas accumulation were explored, and favorable distribution areas for different resource types were pointed out. The results indicate that: (1)The Permian and Triassic developed unconventional types such as marine mudstone (the 2rd interval of the 3th member of Leikoupo(Lei-32) and the 1st member of Maokou Formation(Mao-1)), shale from Wujiaping Formation/Longtan Formation, and coal and gas from Longtan Formation; (2)The Permian system is unconventional in that it has the characteristics of active reservoir integration, in source or near source reservoir formation, good top and bottom conditions of oil and gas reservoir formation, and large area enrichment; (3)The Permian and Triassic marine mudstone, shale, and marine land transitional coal measures are widely distributed, with good reservoir formation conditions, moderate burial, high resource potential, possessing large-scale exploration potential. The Lei-32 of Xichong-Yilong in central Sichuan, the Mao-1 of the eastern slope of Luzhou ancient uplift, the shale of the Wujiaping Formation in northeastern Sichuan, and the coal rocks in the Gaoshiti-Moxi and southern Changning areas in central Sichuan are all favorable exploration areas for further exploration, which are worth further exploration and achieving new breakthroughs.
