Hydrocarbon source and accumulation of continental gas reservoir in structural belt of the Tongnanba area,northeastern Sichuan Basin

Abstract

The research of terrigenous natural gas in the northeastern Sichuan Basin has been well documented.However,the characteristics of terrigenous natural gas of Tongnanba area are complicated,resulting in the source of natural gas and the timing and chronology of hydrocarbon charging still being controversial.The source and accumulation of hydrocarbons of Tongnanba area is discussed through the analysis of the typical gas reservoir characteristics and geochemical characteristics of natural gas in the northeastern Sichuan Basin.It revealed that the terrigenous gas reservoir is dominated by hydrocarbon compounds with low content of nonhydrocarbon compounds,and the methane content is over 95%,which are mixed gas from marine and terrigenous source rocks,mainly from the Xujiahe and Ziliujing Formations.A case study of times of terrigenous gas reservoir multi-stage of hydrocarbon accumulation in the Tongnanba area,northeastern Sichuan Basin was conducted,and it reveled generally that there have been 2 stages of hydrocarbon accumulations in different strata.The hydrocarbon accumulations of the Xujiahe Formation forming periods are from the Early Middle Jurassic to the mid-Later Jurassic and the mid-Early Cretaceous,respectively;while 2 stages of hydrocarbon accumulations of the Ziliujing Formation are from the early Middle Jurassic to the early Later Jurassic and the Early Cretaceous.
