Application of layer-constrained grid tomographic velocity modeling in onshore salt domes area

Abstract

Because of large velocity variance between salt domes and surrounding rocks and large thickness changes in spatial direction,seismic wave field is very complex.According to the complex geological characters and difficulties of velocity modeling in onshore salt domes,we proposed an idea called “layer-constrained grid tomographic velocity modeling techniques”,which uses layer-constrained technique to improve the precision of velocity modeling,and uses dip-steered structure oriented filter to improve the accuracy of tomography inversion.That adopts reverse time migration in depth domain and optimize the key parameters,can precisely image the reflected waves from steep dip.Through the methods above,we can solve the problem of velocity modeling accuracy of salt dome,and the flank of salt dome.Therefore,the pull-up impact from salt domes on the underlying strata can be eliminated and accurate images of complex sub-salt targets can be achieved.
