Analysis on influencing factors of drainage dynamic of wells and CBM development strategy in Shizhuang block

Abstract

Most CBM wells have no or low gas production in Shizhuang block and the reason has been not clear.Based on typical drainage dynamic index of 59 CBM wells in Shizhuang block,the drainage dynamic characteristics are analyzed and three key influencing factors including fault structure,hydraulic fracture type and lithological assemblage type are identified,leading to suggestions on CBM development strategy.The study shows that high water production will reduce the gas production of CBM wells in Shizhuang block and water mainly comes from the aquifers surrounding the coal seams.Fault structures constitute natural flow pass way to communicate coalbeds with aquifers in coal measures and potentially result in high water production which impedes gas production.Horizontal hydraulic fractures are generally less effective for increasing gas production,however,vertical hydraulic fractures are more effective if the lithological assemblage type is favorable but it may extend into adjacent aquifer and lead to high water production on the contrary.Finally it is suggested that favorable regions with no faults,vertical hydraulic fractures and a favorable lithological assemblage types should be selected for CBM development,and potential high water production coal seams,when multi-layer drainage technology is applied,should be avoided for stimulating.
