As an important inorganic mineral in the coal measures, the catalysis of iron-bearing minerals plays an important role in organic-inorganic interactions and hydrocarbon generation. With the addition of different iron-bearing minerals into brown coal samples for the thermal simulation experiment, the results show that siderite has catalytic effects on the generation of gaseous and liquid hydrocarbon (chloroform asphalt “A”). Among them,methane,C+4,liquid saturated hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon increased remarkably. Hematite could increase the production of gaseous hydrocarbon as well as siderite, but it delayed the liquid hydrocarbon generation from 350℃ to 375℃,and played inhibiting effect on liquid hydrocarbon generation at and after 450℃. The iron speciation before and after the thermal simulation experiment were examined by a mssbauer spectroscopy. It suggested that hematite was progressively reduced to magnetite (Fe3O4) during the process of hydrocarbon generation from 375℃ as well as siderite from 450℃. It is essentially illustrated that iron-bearing minerals played as catalyzator during hydrocarbon generation at low temperature stage, and participated in the complicated organic-inorganic reaction at the high temperature stage.
