Relationship between Industrial Indexes and Source Rock Evaluation Parameters of Oil Shale

It is an important problem how to evaluate level of oil shale quality by using source rock evaluation parameters. In this paper,we collected oil shale samplesb distributed in Ordos basin,Junggar basin and Minhe basin and studied their industrial indexes with respect to oil yield and calorific value,as well as source rock evaluation parameters such as hydrocarbon generating potential and total organic carbon. Based on industrial indexes and source rock evaluation parameters of oil shale,we find out that oil yield and calorific value have the best correlations with hydrocarbon generating potential,respectively. The correlation coefficient between oil yield and hydrocarbon generating potential is up to 0.89,with the regression equation being ω = 0.066(S1+S2)+2.413. This result suggests that hydrocarbon generating potential is an ideal parameter to estimate oil yield,and can be used to deduce the qualities of oil shale. According to relationships between oil yield and source rock evaluation parameters,the low,middle and high level of oil shale is classified according to boundary values of 16.4,39.0 and 114.4mg/g for hydrocarbon generating potential,3.3%,10.0% and 32.3% for organic carbon and 0.03%,0.2% and 0.85% for chloroform bitumen "A",respectively.
