Evaluation of Devonian Marine Source Rocks in Northern Margin of Heshentuoluogai Basin

Abstract

Based on organic geochemical data of outcrop samples in the Shaerbuer Mountain which is located in the northern margin of Heshentuoluogai basin,we evaluate the Devonian marine source rocks,including organic abundance,kerogen types and thermal maturity.The results show that the average value of total organic carbon (TOC) of Hebukesaier Formation and Hujiersite Formation samples is 0.31% and 0.72%,respectively.After recovering TOC value,the former reach the standard of medium quality source rock and the latter is the good quality one.The main organic macerals mainly consist in the sapropel,and the kerogen type of organic matter is type I.The thermal maturity of source rock is at the mature stage.Though the measured geochemical data of outcrop samples are greatly influenced by surface weathering,it is confirmed that the Devonian marine source rocks in the Shaerbuer Mountain region have a certain hydrocarbon-generating potential.
