Abstract

The oil and gas discoveries in the early Ordovician paleo karst reservoirs are another big breakthrough, after the reef shoal complex reservoirs were found in
 the Tarim basin. The Paleo karst reservoirs were the result of middle Caledoni an tectonic movements happened in middle Ordovician. Solution cavities, corrosion holes, and fractures were developed, which made it possible to collect and accumulate hydrocarbons along the top of the early Ordovician Yinshan Formation. The paleo karst reservoirs extended along the top of the early Ordovician Yingshan Formation in cross sections, and spread over a considerable extent, so that the paleo karst reservoirs of the Yinshan Formation had abilities to form largescale hydrocarbon accumulations. Analyses of hydrocarbon accumulations indicate that the potential for oil and gas entrapment in the northern slope of Central Tarim uplift is much better than other areas. 
