Abstract

The Yinggehai and Qiongdongnan basins locate at northwest of the SouthChina Sea. The are divided up by No.1 fault, but the hydrocarbon  accumulation of them are quite different. The main soure rocks of Yinggehai basin are Sanya and Meishan formations, but Yacheng and Lingshui formations in Qiongdongnan basin. A number of faults and fractures which are formed by the diapirs activity are the pathway of oil&gas migration. The migration types of  western Qiongdongnan basin are vertical, while lateral and vertical in eastern. Structural traps and lithological-structural traps are the main types of traps in Yinggehai basin. But in Qiongdongnan basin, the main traps are structural traps in Paleogene, and the subsidiary traps are lithological-structural. Hydrocarbon accumulation conditions are the key factor of exploration strategy. The resource potential of lower petroleum system is great in Yinggehai basin, and  it will be the main exploration area in the future. Paleogene structural traps and Neogene lithological-structural complex traps with the pathways to the  Paleogene should be considered as the main exploration targets in the Qiongdongnan basin. And the deepwater areas of it are new exploration areas with favorable prospect.
