The Effect of Gas Sampler on Carbon Stable Isotope Value of Natural Gas

Abstract

In the compared experimental measurement, carbon stable isotope values of natural gas from one aluminum airbag gas samplers for short and long time storages are different. This analytic non\|repeatability would lead to uncertainty of classification of gas genesis and gas-source correlation. The carbon isotope values of natural gas collecting at the different gas samplers were measured with storing times. The analytic results showed that the carbon isotope values of methane gas in the aluminum airbag become heavier with the longer storing time, and slight heavier for ethane and propane. In contrast, the carbon isotope values of methane, ethane and propane contained in saline bottle or high-pressure steel containers as gas sampler do not be changed with gas storing time. Therefore, it is paid more attention to choosing the gas sampler for natural gas and citing data of carbon stable isotope of natural gas. The aluminum airbag as gas sampler should be conservative
