Controlling Factors of Stress Sensitivity in Low-Permeability Reservoirs

Abstract

Since stress sensitivity is one of factors of reservoir damage in the low permeability petroleum field, it is important to evaluate stress sensitivity to reservoir damage. In this paper, we did the experiment of stress sensitivity for matrix and fractured cores sampled from the typical low-permeability reservoirs of Jiyuan oilfield. The stress sensitivity of matrix cores is weak, while it is intense for fractured cores. Under function of outside force, the structural deformation and primary deformation is a main factor for the stress sensitivity. The structural deformation of rock is controlled by porosity, particle contact style, particle cement, occurrence of clay mineral, fractures, etc. The primary deformation of rock is mainly influenced by  its components. The important controlling factors of weak stress sensitive in matrix cores are low frequency of microfissure in core scale, greenite inclusion in clay mineral, well preserved pores.
