Abstract

Using three different coalbed matrix shrinkage/swelling models,we comparatively simulated the permeability, methane production, methane content distribution,CO2 injection and CO2 storage. It is pointed that the simulated maximum permeability is 6 times of initial permeability of shrinkage/swelling model based on sorption/desorption,and permeability decrease with 2 per cent of initial permeability of shrinkage/swelling model based on pressure changes, and the cumulative methane production of former is 1.3 times of later, without CO2 injection. The simulated maximum and minimum permeability is 1.25 and 0.17 times of initial permeability of shrinkage/swelling model based on sorption/desorption,and permeability decrease with 1.6 per cent of initial permeability of shrinkage/swelling model based on pressure changes, and the cumulative methane production of former is 1.5 times of later, and the CO2 injection rate and cumulative CO2 sequestration of later is 14 and 3.85 times of former, with CO2 injection. The results indicate that both the methane production and CO2 sequestration are affected by matrix shrinkage/swelling,and dominated by shrinkage/swelling model which based on sorption and desorption.
