Abstract

Tai H5-1 is the first horizontal well drilled in the Tainan gas field, Qaidam Basin, with a long lateral segment of 1 000 m. Based on the features of Quaternary Formation Q1+2,and the history data of vertical wells, the drilling difficulties of the horizontal well were analyzed and the technical countermeasures were put forward: optimizing borehole geometry, drilling assembly, trajectory controlling by LWD, drilling technique including the selection of drilling fluid, completion technique including the selection of completion fluid, and safety requirements, etc. Through the first and successful application of the above techniques to Tai H5-1, valuable experience is obtained and can be used for exploiting Tainan gas reservoirs.
