METHODS FOR QUANTITATIVE PREDICTION OF TECTONIC FRACTURES IN COMPACT RESERVOIRS IN PETROLIFEROUS BASINS AND A CASE STUDY

Abstract

The quantitative prediction and evaluation of spacial distributive law of tectonic fractures and the quantitative depiction of fracture parameters in reservoirs are still one of the frontier questions for petroleum geology. A noticeable characteristic of low permeable reservoirs, which has been one of very important oil-reservoir types in china, is the development of tectonic fracture system in various degrees. Therefore, there is no doubt that the appropriate quantitative prediction and evaluation of the distribution law for tectonic fractures play an active guidance role in oil exploration and development. Nowadays the basic methods of tectonic fractures prediction study are rock burst, main rate of curve, strain energy and statistics method. Taking the Yanhewan area in the Ordos basin as an example, based on the statistical method, rock burst method, and strain energy method, this paper makes the quantitative prediction and evaluation of the tectonic fracture distribution and development condition in the Chang 6 low permeable reservoir of the Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation, offering important geological reference for further oil exploration and development in the area.
