EFFECT OF TRACE ELEMENT MOLYBDENUM ON HYDROCARBON GENERATION FROM LIGNITE BY PYROLYSIS

Organic-inorganic interactions are ubiquitous and unalterable in sedimentary basins. The effect of the trace element molybdenum on the hydrocarbon generation from lignite by pyrolysis is studied using thermal simulation experiments. From the experiments, an increase of gas yields and a decrease of chloroform bitumen “A” were observed, indicating that the trace element molybdenum catalyzed the process. Further investigations show that the yields of aromatic hydrocarbons decrease and the weight ratio of saturated to aromatic hydrocarbons increases because of the addition of molybdenum.
