ANALYSIS OF THE CONTROLLING EFFECTS OF SOURCE ROCKS ON MIDDLE-LARGE SIZED GAS FIELD FORMATION: TAKING KASHI SAG IN TARIM BASIN AS AN EXAMPLE

Abstract

The assessment of source rocks usually depends on the type, abundance, and maturation of organic matter. And the hydrocarbon generation intensity of the sourcesrocks can be gotten on the basis of the assessment. This paper adopts some dynamic parameters such as thermal evolution rate and hydrocarbon-generation rate to assess the source rocks and analyze its controlling effects on middle-large sized gas fields. The research shows that the Lower Carboniferous source rock is the dominating contributor to the natural gas, and the Permian source rock contribution is subordinate. The Middle to Lower Jurassic source rock, which is high quality source rock for natural gas, only distributes in the piedmont zone of the northern margin of Kashi sag. So its contribution is limited. 
