Tectonic Evolution Characteristics of Tabei Uplift and Its Controlling Effect on the Reservoir and Hydrocarbon Accumulation of Ordovician Carbonate

Abstract:

The Tarim Basin is a large superimposed basin which was developed from the pre-Sinian continental basement.Multiple tectonic movements took place in the Tabei Uplift form the Sinian to Neogene.Tectonic setting and fractures act as favorable pathways for hydrocarbon migration.Because of the multiple reservoir reconstruction by karstifications,reservoir space is provided for hydrocarbon enrichment.The tectonic activity,which was related with Ordovician karstification reconstruction and hydrocarbon enrichment,may be divided into 6 stages.In the Middle Caledonian,slope was exposed in the Sangtamu Formation.In the Late Caledonian,it was dominated by whole tilting northward,leading NNW strike-slip faults.Lunnan Salient was developed in the Early-Middle Hercynian,where Lunnan Nose-shaped Highs,Donghetang-Luntai,Lunxi-Lunnan and Sangtamu Fault Zones were developed.Tectonic deformation in Late Hercynian was dominated by extrusion from volcanic intrusive rock,which was developed around the intrusions.Basement involvement reverse faults and reversed strike-slip faults were caused by NW extrusion stress during Indo-Chinese epoch and old faults were more active.The Yanshanian tectonic deformation was weak.In the Himalayan Period,subsidence occurred in the north of Tabei uplift with the subsidence of the Kuqa Depression,which was generated by the thrusting of the southern Tianshan Mountains.NNE slip faults were developed by the effect of different extrusion.The main stages for the karst formation were Middle Caledonian and Early Hercynian.In the Middle Caledonian,the ground-rivers and underground ones were developed in the exposed slope.During the Late Caledonian,weathering crust karst dominated in the north of the pinchout boundary of Sangtamu Formation while bedded karstification dominated in 8km southwards of the pinchout boundary.Deep undercurrent karst dominated further south.Kartification was mainly developed in the Lunnan Salient during Early Hercynian,which was developed above the karst of Middle Caledonian.Oil/gas in the Tabei Uplift was migrated from south to north and from structural low to highs,where faults were the important pathway for oil/gas migration.NNW strike-slip faults controlled the early migration of oil/gas,while NNE strike-slip faults controlled the adjustments in the later stage.
