Based on the analysis of rare earth elements of the shale rock of the upper Palaeozonic in the Ordos basin, the rare earth elements are enrichment in variegated mudstone and are deficit in melanocratic mud rock. Miner-grain sediment had a high pink and micro-grain one had a very weak. According to the regional distribution of rare earth elements, the source of the northern Ordos basin come form the Yin-shan ancient land, and the source had zonation in east and west area. The sediment differentiation affections control the enrichment of rare earth element. With mudstone particle size become fine form north to south Ordos basin, rare earth elements had a very pink.
